Abertis, a leading, private Spanish company in the management of transport infrastructure and communications, created the UPC-Abertis Chair in Transport Infrastructure Management in 2003, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). In 2017 Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM, joined the agreement.
The Abertis Chairs engages in teaching and research activities in the field of transport infrastructure management. In terms of training, the chair organises conferences, seminars and courses aimed at professionals in the sector. To encourage research, the Abertis Prize is awarded on an annual basis
- To strengthen and consolidate comprehensive training in transport infrastructure management.
- To promote research, development and innovation in the areas of planning and transport operations; costs related to investment in, maintenance and management of transport infrastructure; transport demand and its behaviour; the concessions business; pricing and fares policy; the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in transport and other scientific, social, cultural, economic, technological and communicative aspects of transport.
